Training and Capacity Building

Environment protection and management today is faced with key issues of compliance and enforcement. In the context of India, it is being increasingly realized that the insufficient capacity at various levels to deal with environmental problems is the root cause of environment degradation. This capacity needs to be strengthened by knowledge sharing and training of the stakeholders involved in the protection and management of environment.

The ELDF training programs aim at capacity building by sharing knowledge and providing training on the environmental policy and legal framework in the country, relevant to all the sectors relating to environment and development that also encourages community based innovative gender sensitive participatory approach that lead to reduce threat to the local and global environment.

The training program also aims at sharing innovative thinking on environment protection and management and its adaptability within the sphere of activity of the participants. Hence the program empowers the participants with the requisite knowledge of environmental policy and legal framework and innovative thinking patterns, to build capacity for the protection and management of environment.

Objectives of the Training Programs:

The training programs primarily focuses on sharing knowledge and training on environmental policy and legal framework, so as to make various recipients from several walks of life, equipped with the legal tools on environment protection.   • Understand the role of law in the protection of environment and develop awareness of the role of various actors in enforcing environmental laws
  • Recognizing the issues surrounding the environment degradation and its legal implications
  • Identify major principles of environmental law and issues surrounding them and its practical applications
  • Comprehend different mechanisms including institutional arrangements and processes established to ensure environmental compliance
  • Develop awareness of rights- based approaches to environmental protection.
  • Critically assess the role of courts especially appellate courts in the protection and preservation of environment
  • Thinking new tools and techniques to enhance environmental protection and compliance with the environment law Some of our training activities have received global recognition: For example the Panchayat Shivirs or legal literacy camps that we have conducted on the tribal Self Rule Law which is well documented and reported as one of the key Power Tools, (http://www.policy-powertools.org/Tools/Ensuring/LLC.html).
